Ginseng extract contains ginsenosides and triterpenoid saponins,it was suggested that ginsenosides act on the central nervous system, particularly in neurodegenerative disorders.Ginsenoside Rg3 has been reported to inhibit glutamate receptors.

Panax ginseng extract also contribute to immune system modulation and antistress activity. These bioactivities are generally attributed to ginsenosides, Among these ginsenosides, Rb1, Rc, Rb2, and Rd are primary ginsenosides. These primary ginsenosides can be converted into transformed ginsenosides through deglycosylation and or dehydration. In particular, primary ginsenosides can be transformed into 20(S)-Rg3, Rk1, and Rg5.
